This stadium was established in the year of 1996 to host international cricket and football matches. The sitting capacity of this stadium has around 60,000. The stadium has the facility floodlights for night matches. The architecture of the stadium is unique compared to other stadiums in India. The Most Innovative aspect of the stadium is its unique Lighting Towers which can provide Lighting levels for HDTV telecast. The Structure of the tower is itself one of a kind in India. From the beginning of IPL fourth edition this stadium shall be the home venue for the new IPL team KTK Kochi Tuskers Kerala and will officially host all the home-matches of the franchise.
